The Salih Neftci Memorial Scholarship at Baruch College |
|
|
Dr. Salih Neftci, a long time professor in the Baruch MFE program, passed away in April 2009.
In appreciation of his tireless dedication to educating them and to
shaping their future, the Baruch MFE alumni and students, as well as
former colleagues and friends of Salih, established a Memorial
Scholarship at Baruch College honoring Salih Neftci's memory.
Through a generous effort (over $27,000 raised in less than one
month) and overwhelming response (over 100 out of 190 all-time
alumni and students of the Baruch MFE Program contributed), the
scholarship is now endowed in perpetuity.
The first scholarship will be awarded in February 2010 to a Baruch MFE
student who demonstrated desire and ability to help others in
understanding the principles of financial engineering. |

Fall 2009 Admission Report |
|
|
The admission to the Baruch MFE Program for the
Fall 2009 semester was highly competitive: 29 of 352 applicants were
admitted, and 24 students enrolled in the program, 16 full-time
and 8 part-time. While smaller than in previous years, the current
cohort of students is very strong. Selection was based on
interviews, either in person, or phone interviews, and was not limited
by any fixed number of seats. Every applicant who was not offered
admission had the opportunity to talk to the Program Director about
their application, and to be advised how to strengthen their
application in the future.

We offer a high quality education. Our graduates are very successful
inthe job market, even in the current market conditions.
We enroll only the most qualified applicants, and we do not have a
minimum number of seats to fill. Our students work together in small
teams and learn from each other, fostering a sense of camaraderie and
strong connections even as alumni. Our students are competitive and
driven to succeed.
Our active alumni formed the Baruch Financial Engineering Alumni
Association in October 2006. The Association offers one-on-one
mentoring to all students wishing to participate.
Prospective
candidates have direct access to our students, alumni, and faculty via
online chats, information sessions, or by attending classes during
the semester.
Admission to the program is selective (the acceptance rate for the
Fall2008 cohort was 11%) and we have small class sizes (the Fall 2008
cohort consisted of 29 full-time and 11 part-time students). Promising
candidates whose applications were rejected are invited to learn how to
strengthen their applications and are encouraged to re-apply.
As any successful program, we are forthcoming with numbers and
information about employment
data and
admission statistics.
The student
body of the Financial Engineering MS Program at Baruch
College is as diverse as could be expected from a school in the City
University of New York educational system. No matter what your
background is, it is likely that we have students or alumni with a
similar background.
The Financial Engineering MS Program at Baruch College is located in
New York City, arguably the most exciting financial capital of the
world.
