Tier III Minor

As part of the requirements of a baccalaureate degree, all new freshmen, all transfer students, and all students reentering Baruch College after an extended absence must complete an official arts and sciences Tier III minor to graduate.

The Three Tiers

All undergraduate students at Baruch College must complete a common core curriculum that comprises three tiers. Tier I courses focus on communication and quantitative skills. Tier II courses are in the social and natural sciences.

The Tier III minor consists of three liberal arts courses (9–12 credits), outside the student's major, at the 3000-level or higher. These must include a Capstone course. Capstones are research oriented and communication intensive courses at the 4000-level or above. Capstones can be taken only after students have completed two courses in their disciplinary concentration at the 3000 level or higher, and must be taken at Baruch College. In order to graduate, a student must have a grade point average of at least 2.00 in the three courses that make up his or her Tier III minor.

how to declare a minor

Declaration of the Tier Three Minor is part of the Eligibility Review for Your Major - Online Application. You indicate your minor at the time you apply for your major/school. Students must complete a Minor Declaration Form with the academic department. The forms may be obtained at the department or at the Center for Advisement and Orientation.
